Central Consolidated School District announced on May 7 that Ervin Trujillo has been appointed as the new principal of Shiprock High School. Trujillo, who previously served as a CCSD principal and district administrator, brings over twenty years of experience in education to his new role.

The appointment is significant for the school community because it brings an experienced leader back to the district. Trujillo’s background includes classroom teaching at both elementary and middle school levels, administrative roles within CCSD such as Human Resource Coordinator, and a decade as Assistant Principal at Piedra Vista High School in Farmington Municipal Schools. He was recognized as New Mexico Assistant Principal of the Year in January 2020.

“I believe that students thrive in environments where they feel safe, supported, and connected,” Trujillo said. “I am committed to building a school culture that reflects those values. My goal is to build on the strengths already in place, while continuing to develop systems that support attendance, achievement, and graduation.”

Trujillo holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico and completed his administrative licensure through New Mexico Highlands University. He said he plans to be a visible presence at Shiprock High School by working closely with staff, families, and the broader Shiprock community from the beginning.

Trujillo will assume his duties at Shiprock High School on July 13. The high school serves students in grades nine through twelve and is home to the Chieftains. Central Consolidated School District operates multiple schools serving communities including Shiprock and surrounding areas; it provides public education from elementary through high school levels while supporting family involvement and academic programs according to the official website.

Observers expect Trujillo’s leadership will focus on strengthening student outcomes while engaging with families and staff across Central Consolidated’s educational community.
