Zackary Blueeyes, Hayden Dan, and Dallas Dan from Kirtland are making their presence felt at the New Mexico State 4A Golf Tournament held at Pinon Hills golf course in Farmington, New Mexico. After the first round of competition, the KCHS girls’ team is two strokes behind Albuquerque Academy for a state title. The tournament’s return to the Four Corners courses marks its first appearance there since 2004.
Senior Zackary Blueeye ended the day with a score of 75, placing him in fourth position. Despite starting his round “a little rough” due to limited warm-up time, he remains optimistic about his chances. “Anything can happen,” he said, especially with wind potentially affecting play in the next round. Blueeye emphasized the importance of staying calm and composed in this mentally challenging sport.
Hayden Dan is currently in second place in her second year at the state tournament. She identified putting as her main challenge but maintained a positive outlook on her performance. Hayden aims to remain focused and consistent in her game despite any pressure from spectators.
Junior Dallas Dan sits in fourth place after relying heavily on her short game due to less than ideal drives. She expressed confidence in her improved mental game and looks forward to enhancing her driving skills for the final round.
Kirtland’s team stands just two strokes behind Albuquerque Academy. With strong individual performances and a young team eager for victory, they head into the final round well-positioned for success.
