San Juan College issued the following announcement on May 14.
San Juan College (SJC) and New Mexico State University (NMSU) have signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements that will benefit transfer students.
The first agreement, a Guaranteed Admission Program, was created for San Juan College students who transfer to New Mexico State University. With the Guaranteed Admission Program, SJC students who plan to transfer to NMSU are guaranteed admission contingent upon fulfilling the university’s admission requirements. While at SJC, these students have many of the same privileges as NMSU students, such as access to the library and other resources. The program creates a seamless transition allowing students to earn an associate’s degree at SJC and a bachelor’s degree from NMSU.
The goals of the Guaranteed Admission Program are to eliminate barriers for students, improve academic program articulation, as well as improve student success and retention.
The second MOU, a reverse transfer initiative, pertains to students who transfer to NMSU prior to graduating from SJC. This allows students the opportunity to continue to complete an associate’s degree from San Juan College after transferring to New Mexico State University. Those who qualify must have transferred at least 24 credit hours from SJC, as well as earned credits from NMSU.
Both agreements will be effective for the next three years.
“This partnership with New Mexico State University not only contributes to the future success of our students, but also provides additional opportunities for our transfer students to further their education,” explains San Juan College President Dr. Toni Hopper Pendergrass.
