City of Espanola issued the following announcement on July 30.
NOTICE OF REPEAL OF FIRE MORATORIUM
EFFECTIVE JULY 31, 2020
Mayor Javier E. Sánchez, in concurrence with Interim Fire Chief Ron Padilla, hereby declares that the fire danger is alleviated and order a repeal of the moratorium on open burning within city limits. This order is pursuant to Ordinance 2000-03 Restrictions of Open Burning.
1. Constituents have adhered to Ordinance 2000-03 and have helped mitigate the harmful effects of uncontrolled fires during the driest months of 2020.
2. The southwestern monsoon season for 2020 has begun
3. PPE is currently available in sufficient quantities that access to PPE is not currently basis for limiting open burning.
4. Residents are encouraged to undertake field maintenance and maintenance of defensible space around homes and structures.
5. Fire Department Personnel have been adequately trained in COVID-19 emergency protocols.
6. Constituents are in need of an alternative to utilizing transfer stations to dispose of green waste which might serve as fuel for a wildfire.
