San Juan College issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.
A new electric car has joined the fleet of instructional vehicles in San Juan College’s Automotive Program.
The vehicle was funded by a New Mexico grant through the San Juan College Center of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Sustainability. San Juan Signs installed a partial wrap on the vehicle with San Juan College logos. The automotive program also purchased an electric vehicle charging station to power the vehicle.
New Technology used during COVID
During the COVID-19 pandemic, technology is allowing automotive students to return to campus and perform hands-on classwork to complete their educational degrees and programs.
“Automotive instructors are wearing head-mounted cameras that project onto hand-held tablets, allowing students and instructors to share the same view while social distancing,” says Robert McCartney, San Juan College automotive instructor. “In addition to social distancing and keeping class maximum to five students, masks are worn by students and instructors, and students are working individually at lab stations.”
“Students are excited to be able to return to the classroom,” continues McCartney. “They can rest assured we are providing a safe learning environment by adhering to CDC cleaning protocols, as well as, PPE and social distancing recommendations.”
