San Juan College issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.
From the academic halls of San Juan College, the San Juan College Music Program will stream a Fall End-of-Semester Student showcase, as students feature their musical talents while completing their final exams.
“ I am proud of our staff and students for their work in developing innovative ways to offer our community enjoyable online events, while providing an opportunity for our students to safely showcase their talents during their final exams – all while following safe distancing protocol,” said Edward DesPlas, Executive Vice President of San Juan College.
The series includes the following events:
- San Juan College “Live” Online Jazz Concert (live streaming), Friday, November 13, at 7 p.m.
- San Juan College Symphonic Band and Music Educators’ Ensemble (live stream), Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m.
- San Juan College Choir video release, How Can I Keep From Singing (pre-recorded, and streamed), Tuesday, December 8, at 7 p.m.
- San Juan College Orchestra (live streaming), Friday, December 11, at 7 p.m.
- San Juan College African Drumming Ensemble (live streaming), Friday, December 18, at 7 p.m.
In order to facilitate final exams for the San Juan College music department, permission was granted under strict precautionary measures to allow up to 24 students, two instructors and two media services technicians within the San Juan College Henderson Fine Arts Center (HFAC) Performance Hall.
The precautions the college is taking align with the public health order. “The Henderson Fine Arts Center Performance Hall has a capacity of approximately 700 occupants,” DesPlas explained. “Twenty-eight people within this classroom represents 4 percent of the occupancy of the room, far below the 25 percent occupancy allowed for gyms and health clubs, indoor dining at restaurants, and retail businesses. The students will perform their final exam and then leave the facility.”
