On July 15, 2021, SJCSO Detectives arrested Jacob Sanders where he was charged with Criminal Sexual Penetration of a child under 13 (1st degree felony), and three counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the second degree. In conjunction with the arrest, a search warrant was conducted on his place of residence. While conducting the search warrant, information came to light of other offenses with a different victim. After an investigation into this new case, Sanders was additionally charged with Criminal Sexual Penetration of a child under 13 (1st degree felony) and Abuse of a Child Resulting in Great Bodily Harm (1st degree felony).
On January 26, 2023, Jacob Sanders entered into a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office on both cases. As a result of the plea agreement, on February 16, 2023, Sanders was sentenced to 16 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections followed by mandatory supervised parole and probation. We appreciate all the hard work the SJCSO Detectives and the District Attorney’s Office did to secure this conviction.
