SAN JUAN COLLEGE: SJC’s Continuing Education publication offers online classes.

San Juan College issued the following announcement on Aug. 14. 

If you’re interested in learning from your living room, San Juan College’s Continuing Education publication offers an unprecedented number of online classes for personal enrichment and workforce development. The schedule covers July through December 2020, with many classes beginning after Labor Day.

Popular Encore, non-credit, and Center for Workforce Development instructors have transitioned classes to live online formats using Zoom software. These classes have scheduled time online and are designed for ease of use for students with diverse online skills.

For workforce training, local instructors offer classes such as Web Page Development: A Basic Design and Change and How to Deal with It. Numerous online classes on demand such as Computer Skills for the Workplace and Blogging and Podcasting for Beginners are offered through a partnership with ed2go.   

Encore classes are specifically designed for learners 50 years and older, and new online classes range from Constellation Mythology to Your Yoga Tool Kit. Numerous online classes involve reading or literature, such as Reading World War II, Ethnic American Literature and Writing Our Lives: Memoirs and More. One Book/One Community: Crazy Brave connects community members with San Juan College’s selected book for the year and the class will connect with virtual opportunities this fall related to this interdisciplinary program. Computer Basics at Home and Using the Internet at Home provide opportunities to develop essential skills. Stay at Home Wellness, Yoga at Home, and At Home Fitness offer encouragement for activity and camaraderie in online formats. Art classes transitioned to an online format include Color on Cloth, Art at Home, and Innovative iPhone Photography. Encore classes are open to anyone 18 and older and these online offerings are ideal for community members who are encouraged to stay at home.

Online non-credit opportunities include developing computer skills and exercise, including Cybersecurity and Dancing at Home. Meal Planning Boot Camp, Backyard Conservation Workshops and Freezer Meal Boot Camp provide timely topics for days at home. Popular outdoor offerings for students to experience our region include biking, fishing and hiking. All face-to-face instruction is subject to current guidelines and San Juan College COVID Safe Procedures.
