San Juan County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on April 1.
On February 4, 2022, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary that occurred near Vallecito, CO. A large number of items were stolen from the residence on numerous occasions, resulting in over $60,000 in stolen property. La Plata County Investigators received information that the suspects involved resided in San Juan County and contacted San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Detectives to assist. Through the investigation, San Juan County Detectives served 9 search warrants which included residences, businesses and devices. Five state side arrest warrants were obtained for the individuals involved and a sixth will be prosecuted federally. The five individuals charged in New Mexico are Heather Cawthon, Ismael Cordova, Shawn Blackwell, Jobie Wells, and Brandon Yates. The sixth suspect is pending a federal indictment. The items recovered through the investigation included over 20 firearms (one being a .50 caliber rifle), hundreds of rounds of ammunition, hunting bows, a riding lawn mower, a snowmobile, a trailer, and a large amount of silver bullion.
