The Central Consolidated School District (CCSD) is collaborating with the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety to establish a new public safety answering point (PSAP) in Shiprock, New Mexico. This initiative will place a dispatch center on the school district's property to handle emergency calls and coordinate response efforts more effectively.
A school board vote saw four members in favor of the initiative, with one abstention. This partnership is expected to improve emergency response readiness both on school premises and in the surrounding communities. The CCSD aims to work closely with local leaders, Navajo Nation officials, and dispatch units to achieve this.
An agreement detailing this collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding, signed on March 21st by President Nygren of the Navajo Nation. The initiative is seen as an essential move to enhance community protection during crisis situations.
"We are excited to support this initiative that will enhance emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of the Navajo Nation," the CCSD stated regarding the partnership.
