From October 26, 2022 post.
Bat Week continues with more fun bat facts! Holding the record for the oldest known bat in the world, was a male Brandt's Myotis, like the one pictured. The bat was captured by researchers in 2005, and bore a numbered band that had been attached by researchers who first captured him in 1964, making him at least 41 years old! The world's oldest bat was examined and released. Bat biologists believe that bats' ability to hibernate and enter a daily state of torpor, which both slow down their metabolism, allow bats to live long lives.
