The San Juan County Regional Officer Involved Shooting Task Force is investigating an officer involved shooting involving the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
December 14, 2022, a San Juan County Sheriff’s Office deputy was attempting to serve a court order to Raymond Monroe Stallings III. Farmington Police officers have responded to the residence on multiple occasions prior to the issuance of the court order. FPD issued a law enforcement advisory on Stallings to include that he is known to be violent and carry a weapon.
As a result of the most recent domestic violence complaint to Farmington Police Department, a restraining order was granted on Raymond Stallings III. This included a no contact order with the other residents and an eviction from his place of residence, which was an external building on the property. The restraining order was issued by a judge on December 12.
On December 14, at approximately 12:20pm, deputies attempted to serve Mr. Stallings with the order. A deputy had verbal contact with Stallings at which time he aggressively exited the shed with a sword in hand. He began moving toward the deputy at which time the deputy fired at least twice. Deputies quickly transitioned to rendering medical aid to Stallings while waiting for medics to arrive on scene. The suspect was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and is currently in stable condition.
No officers or uninvolved citizens were injured. Per San Juan County Sheriff’s Office policy, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. Conclusions about whether the actions of the deputy are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all the facts are known and the investigation is complete.
