Lifesaving Medal | San Juan County Sheriff's Office, NM
From February 7,2023 post.
On January 13, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office held our annual awards banquet where we celebrate the great work of our staff. Over the course of a few weeks, we will highlight some of these awards and the staff that earned them.
Today we recognize one of our recipients of a Lifesaving Medal. The Lifesaving Medal is presented to members whose quick actions and selfless response saved the life of another.
On August 29, 2022, Deputy Flack was dispatched to a residence outside Aztec for reports of an overdose. The female caller stated to dispatch that a male had overdosed and was currently gasping for air. When Deputy Flack arrived at the residence the male was unconscious and not breathing. Deputy Flack did not find a pulse initially and began CPR efforts on the male. After three doses of Narcan were administered along with CPR, the male began showing signs of life again. Once medics arrived on scene, additional efforts were provided, and the male was ultimately able to walk to the ambulance bed before it was over. Fire department personnel thanked Deputy Flack for his quick response and actions. If Deputy Flack had not provided the lifesaving efforts he did, it is believed the male would not have made it. Deputy Flack is to be commended for his efforts.
