Exceptional Service Award | San Juan County Sheriff's Office, NM
From February 9,2023 post.
On January 13, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office held our annual awards banquet where we celebrate the great work of our staff. Over the course of a few weeks, we will highlight some of these awards and the staff that earned them.
Today we are recognizing Deputy Mike Nelson for receiving the Exceptional Service Award. This award is presented to deputies who, during the course of their official duties, provide a service that is carried out in a superior manner. This award may be given for duties including, but not limited to; enforcement activity, departmental service, community service, etc.
On October 28, 2022, Deputy M. Nelson responded to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was later determined to be stolen. During the course of this still ongoing investigation, Deputy Nelson contacted numerous involved persons, suspects, and victims. Through these contacts, he was able to expand his investigation, resulting in eight arrest warrants among five suspects and three recovered stolen vehicles. Deputy Nelson, and several of his shift partners, were relentless in their efforts to serve these warrants. These efforts resulted in one of the suspects contacting Deputy Nelson directly with threats of violence. Deputy Nelson's passion and dedication to the Sheriff’s Office is a credit to the Agency. His efforts enforce the Sheriff’s Office Mission Statement and Code of Ethics. Deputy Nelson has shown no compromise for crime and is relentless in the prosecution of criminals.
