The Permian Strategic Partnership, which represents many of the energy companies invested in the Permian Basin, recently came out with its annual report. The report highlights several projects of specific importance to Eddy and Lea County.

For example, to assist with education, PSP developed a program allowing teachers an opportunity to become board certified. As of the spring of 2023, 247 teachers have enrolled across the ten counties covered in the Permian Basin. This program began in Eddy and Lea Counties. PSP also worked with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation to provide STEM Centers to area elementary schools.

Students from Loving Municipal Schools recently completed a six-week program that focused on the energy industry. This came about after a survey concluded that there aren’t enough education programs in the region that address the energy sector.

Eddy County first responders were also among the recipients of a PSP program that donated equipment including medical supply kits, fire extinguishers and gas monitors. PSP has also been directly involved in bringing behavioral health care options to Carlsbad. This year, the organization also helped with the creation of a Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center, to support needs for the entire region.

These are just a few of PSP’s ongoing projects. Thank you to PSP President and CEO Tracee Bentley and Chairman Don Evans for being partners to Carlsbad and other communities in the Permian Basin.

The Carlsbad Public Library is hosting a celebration of its new digital archive at 6:30 p.m. June 29 at the library. The library’s archive is a work in progress, but it includes videos of several Heritage Walks that were compiled over the past few years, as well as information about what life was like in Carlsbad during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can view the digital archive here: https://library.biblioboard.com/module/carlsbad-public-library-community-collections.

We hope you’ll join us at the library on June 29 for a very special community event.

Don’t forget that Carlsbad Municipal Transit will be offering free shuttle rides between the Cascades and the Beach area from 10 a.m. until after the fireworks show on Tuesday, July 4.

We received word that Jennifer Nalty has passed away. We have worked with Jennifer numerous times on various projects through her employment with Cal’s Shade Western, and we offer our condolences to her many family members and friends. She was well loved by many. There will be an event beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Shade to raise money for her burial expenses, including live music and an auction. Donations made then, or at any other time, are appreciated.
