Here’s the second part of our plan for Independence Day, which is a celebration of “America the Beautiful.”

The Carlsbad Water Park will be open on Monday, July 3. The water park is usually closed on Mondays, but we are making an exception due to the holiday. The park will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is hosting Carlsbad’s Electric Light Boat Parade, which should begin at around 9 p.m. Monday evening. You’ll be able to see this parade from the beach area. DJ G Money (Anthony Alonzo) will also be providing music down by the beach that evening.

Things will really pick up on Independence Day itself, Tuesday, July 4. There will be a Firecracker Scramble golf tournament going on all day at the golf course. We’ll also have free transit rides going on between the Cascades parking lot and the beach area for most of the day.

This year, our parade will begin at Carlsbad Prep Academy on Church Street at 9 a.m. The route will travel down Church Street to Canyon Street and end near the Eddy County Courthouse. Carlsbad MainStreet is hosting the parade, and advance entry is not required. Right after the parade, there will be a ceremony to honor WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans held at the Cavern Theatre, which is right across the street from the courthouse. We began this event a few years ago and expect to recognize more than 70 local veterans who were part of the Vietnam War. This is a tremendous honor, and we strongly encourage you to join. The ceremony is expected to begin at 10 a.m. Thank you to LA Services LLC for the generous donation of buses for this part of our celebration.

There will be more music over at the bandshell on the afternoon, beginning with Grupo Maldad at 3:30 p.m  and then moving into rock band Stranded. Later in the evening, we’ll have two very special guests with a performance called “Elvis & Patsy Cline: Back in Baby’s Arms.” Finally, the extremely popular Grupo Veneno will again be our headliner, from 7:15-9 p.m. on July 4. Veneno’s music will conclude as we move into our annual fireworks show, which is the greatest display in the state of New Mexico. Of course, there will also be numerous vendors set up in the beach area on Tuesday.

The concerts and events are all free thanks to a group of great sponsors, including title sponsors R360 and Marathon Petroleum. We also had numerous volunteers dedicate themselves toward making this year’s event extra special. We look forward to seeing you and making this year a very special event in Carlsbad.
