1edited

There were 24 lawyers with active licenses to practice in Rio Arriba County as of the fourth quarter of 2023, according to the State Bar of New Mexico.

Data refers to all lawyers who were actively practicing during this time period.

As of January, 2024, the average salary for a lawyer in New Mexico is around $93,325 per year.

New Mexico's public defender's office is severely understaffed, handling over 57,500 adult criminal and 2,400 juvenile cases annually with only 295 full-time attorneys. This workload equates to an average of 203 cases per attorney, a number experts say is impossible to manage effectively. With current staffing levels, attorneys would need to work impossible 25.4 hours per day to provide adequate representation.
