Safety Tips and Tips for Buying Legal Fireworks

We are getting VERY close to Independence Day and for those of you who choose to purchase and light fireworks this year (We would prefer that you enjoy some of the municipal displays, or, ya know, just maybe suffice with a few hot dogs) we would like to provide you with some safety tips and tips for buying LEGAL fireworks for the jurisdiction which you plan to use them.

LEGALITY:

Fireworks bear either a 'WARNING' label or a 'CAUTION' label.

WARNING is illegal within the jurisdiction limits of Aztec, Bloomfield, Farmington, and Kirtland. You will only be able to buy them in unincorporated areas of the county. Rule of thumb: use them where you buy them (Don't go gout to the county to buy them and light them in the city)

CAUTION labels are legal in all jurisdictions.

That being said, all fireworks can only be used on barren ground.

If you are lighting fireworks, make sure that there is a water source nearby. Make sure they are completely out before you throw them away (Drench in water is a good way)

And don't hesitate to call 911 if something gets out of hand.

There will be crews patrolling for illegal fireworks over the next week. Please don't give us a reason to visit you this holiday.
