Aggravated Burglary

Lucero

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office arrest Maximiliano Munoz-Lucero in connection to a shooting that occurred over the weekend.  Munoz-Lucero, age 22, is being charged with aggravated burglary, a 2nd degree felony, and two counts of aggravated battery, both 3rd degree felonies.

On July 24 at approximately 7:30 am, deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 3935.  Deputies and EMS arrived on scene to assist a man who had been shot multiple times.  The victim, 22-year-old Brandon Huegler, was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Witnesses stated seeing a man get in an altercation with Huegler and shoot him, then flee in a gray SUV.  While deputies were attempting to locate the vehicle, dispatch received a call at 8:04am from a woman stating her brother just got home claiming he killed someone in self-defense.  Deputies located Munoz-Lucero outside a residence, detained him without incident, and transported him to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed.

Through investigation, SJCSO detectives learned that Munoz-Lucero was dropping off a friend at a residence on 3935 when a vehicle pulled up behind his vehicle.  Huegler exited his vehicle and confronted Munoz-Lucero, reportedly lifting his shirt to show a firearm, then returned to his vehicle.  Both individuals remained in their vehicles.  After some time had passed, Munoz-Lucero walked back to Huegler’s vehicle where he found him asleep.  Munoz-Lucero took the firearm off Huegler, hit Huegler in the head with the firearm, and began to walk back to his vehicle with Huegler’s gun.  As Huegler exited his vehicle and began to approach Munoz-Lucero, Munoz-Lucero stated he shot Huegler multiple times and left the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.  Anyone with additional information is asked to call the SJCSO Detective Tip Line at 505-333-7878.
