Smoke Detectors Save the Day!

Over the weekend crews from San Juan County Fire & Rescue District 6 Lee Acres San Juan County Fire & Rescue - District 9 Sullivan Road and Bloomfield Fire Department were dispatched to a residence where the alarm monitoring company reported smoke detector activation. San Juan County Sheriff's Office, NM arrived and found there to be smoke in the home.

By the time Firefighters on County Squad 1 arrived, the homeowners had returned home and stopped the fire with a fire extinguisher. Damage was contained to the kitchen.

The residents were not home at the time of the smoke detector activition, but they were notified by their detection company.

This just goes to show how important smoke detectors are- giving you time to get out of your house if there is a fire (and time to keep the problem to a minimum!)

Do you have a smoke detector? Have you tested it in the last 6 months? Do you and your family have a plan when you hear that smoke detector go off?

If you need a smoke detector, call (505) 334-1180

It’s national preparedness month and we want to prevent needless injury, death, and property damage! How prepared are you?
