From March 31, 2023 post.
Here is a look at the fire that burned last night, north of the San Juan River in the area of County Road 4865, east of Bloomfield. With better mapping, we know that this fire was about 35 acres. We can report that one storage building was lost, but no residences or other outbuildings were burned. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
It is the end of March and despite this winter’s moisture, all of this was ready to burn and went up easy.
What we need people to understand is that a little bit of snow over the winter DOES NOT mean that we are going to have a better fire season. We encourage all of you to continue to have good practices in preventing wildfires. We also need you to have defensible area around your home. We can better protect your home if you have done work before we get there.
The fire season has already started. PLEASE help us protect your home, your neighbor’s homes, and all the property in the county.
Crews will be keeping a close eye on this fire over the weekend.
