A reported weapon incident occurred at Shiprock High School on October 22, 2024. The Central Consolidated School District and the school administration were promptly informed of the situation at 12:18 p.m. and immediately contacted the Navajo Police Department.

Officials emphasized that there was no immediate threat to students or staff during the incident. In collaboration with law enforcement, the source of the threat was identified, leading to a shelter-in-place order while suspected lockers were searched. By 1:30 p.m., a firearm was recovered, and two individuals were taken into custody without any harm occurring.

The school administration worked closely with law enforcement to maintain a calm environment throughout the investigation. "We appreciate the vigilance of everyone who has reported potential threats to the Central Consolidated School District," stated school officials, encouraging continued use of their “See Something, Say Something” Tip Line for reporting concerns.

The district remains committed to open communication with its community and will provide further updates as necessary. Mental health resources are available for students and staff in need of support. For questions or concerns, contact with the school administration is encouraged.
