Denise Pierro awarded New Mexico Gifted Teacher of the Year 2024

Denise Pierro, an educator at Judy Nelson Elementary School, has been named New Mexico Gifted Teacher of the Year 2024 by the New Mexico Association for the Gifted (NMAG). This award highlights Pierro's dedication to addressing the needs of gifted students and her contributions to gifted education. Her teaching methods and advocacy have had a significant impact on her students and the educational community.

“It’s just an honor to receive this award,” said Pierro. “I’ve worked really hard, but the kids have worked just as hard, and the incredible teamwork we have here at Judy Nelson is what truly makes this possible. The way our students, teachers, and staff all come together is amazing. We are constantly working to help each other be the best we can be, and it’s inspiring to see how the collaboration between all of us—students, teachers, and families—drives our success.”

Pierro is recognized for creating an inclusive learning environment and her commitment to professional growth and collaboration with peers.

The New Mexico Association for the Gifted (NMAG) advocates for gifted students' needs by providing resources, professional development opportunities, and support networks. NMAG aims to ensure that gifted learners access specialized programs necessary for their potential.
