San Juan County issued the following announcement on May 13.
We wanted to pass along some fire restrictions from the state that took effect this morning. You can see the info from the state linked below
Since this is from the state, we will direct any questions about the fire restrictions to the state.
In essence, the state has issued a fire ban which applies to the entire state, except for Municipal, Federal, and Tribal land. The burn ban applies to all private lands in the state. There are specific rules for oil & gas industry performing flaring.
Until further notice, the San Juan County Fire Department will not be issuing burn permits. All burn permits will be issued through the state. Please see the attached for conditions which must be met before a permit is issued, and the proper contact information to apply for a permit.
As of May 7, 2020, the majority of San Juan County is still under D2, severe drought. Fuels are dry and susceptible to rapidly-spreading fire. It is important to be especially careful with any activities which could start a fire.
