A member of the community posted to social media last week claiming an off-duty deputy had been in a physical altercation at an Aztec restaurant. The deputy was falsely accused and widely misrepresented over social media. The incident was reported to Aztec Police department and is actively being investigated by their agency. The restaurant has video surveillance of the altercation and Aztec Police have confirmed there was no involvement of any Sheriff’s Office personnel. If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information that may help Aztec Police identify the individuals involved, please contact the Aztec Police Department. Every agency in the area will take complaints and investigate police misconduct. Please contact agencies directly so these types of incidents may be investigated properly. We hold our deputies to a high standard and have expectations of their actions, on and off duty. The public’s trust in law enforcement is essential for our partnership with the community and we wish to maintain the expectations placed upon us.
