From January 25, 2023 post.

On January 13, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office held our annual awards banquet where we celebrate the great work of our staff. Over the course of a few weeks, we will highlight some of these awards and the staff that earned them.

First, we would like to recognize one of the recipients of a Lifesaving Medal. The Lifesaving Medal is presented to members whose quick actions and selfless response saved the life of another. Deputy Julian Moore received two Lifesaving Medals for two separate incidents in 2022.

On May 7, 2022, deputies responded to a residence who reported that a 2 ½ year old had fallen into a septic tank and was not breathing. Deputy Julian Moore was first on scene and confirmed the child was unconscious and not breathing and began providing life saving measures until medics arrived. The child was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where lifesaving efforts continued and was brought back to life before being airlifted to Albuquerque. Although the child will likely have a long road to recovery, we are confident that Deputy J. Moore's quick actions on scene contributed to him being alive today. Deputy J. Moore is not only to be commended for his lifesaving efforts on scene, but his ability to remain calm and professional while dealing with the family and other people on scene.

On August 8, 2022, Deputy J. Moore responded to a residence in Kirtland, in reference to a possible overdose. Deputy J. Moore immediately determined that the male had possibly taken something, at which time he administered one dose of Narcan. When the male did not respond, he immediately began CPR. Shortly thereafter, a pulse was recognized, and medics arrived on scene to further evaluate the patient. Later, Deputy J. Moore determined that the male had taken fentanyl. Deputy J. Moore's actions saved the man’s life that day.

Thank you, Deputy Moore, for your service to our community and representing the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office in an exemplary manner.
