From January 13, 2023 post.
Happy New Year! We're looking forward to a lot of exciting things in 2023. Before we dive into the year ahead though, we'd like to take a moment to thank our Friends Group for their support in projects and events last year in 2022! The Chaco Culture Conservancy (CCC) is a New Mexico nonprofit 501©(3) corporation created to assist and support Aztec Ruins National Monument and Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Without their help, many of the events held throughout the year wouldn't be possible. Their support takes form in many ways including community outreach, project funding, event collaboration, trail maintenance, and more.
In 2022, the CCC funded the demonstrator program at Aztec and Chaco, supported multiple presentations held throughout the year, including a Willow Weaving Workshop, and helped make annual events like the solstice observations, the American Indian Cultural Arts Festival at Aztec and the Astronomy Festival at Chaco successful. More specific projects that were supported by the CCC included a much-needed improvement to the natural resources shed at Chaco, a pilot program using 3D laser scanning (LiDAR) on the southwest section of Pueblo Bonito, and the translation and encoding of Chaco archival resources for addition onto the New Mexico Archives Online (NMAO) platform.
Overall, the Chaco Culture Conservancy provided $17,309.25 used for projects and events held in 2022. The CCC is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and we thank them for their support and dedication to Aztec Ruins National Monument and Chaco Culture National Historical Park!
