From February 2, 2023 post.
On January 13, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office held our annual awards banquet where we celebrate the great work of our staff. Over the course of a few weeks, we will highlight some of these awards and the staff that earned them.
Today we recognize one of our recipients of a Lifesaving Medal. The Lifesaving Medal is presented to members whose quick actions and selfless response saved the life of another.
On the July 2, 2022, Sergeant Rogers responded to a traffic accident with injuries. Prior to his arrival, Sergeant Rogers was informed that a vehicle crashed into a fence and a male was non-responsive. Little information given led Sergeant Rogers to believe this was a possible overdose situation. Sergeant Rogers arrived on scene before any additional first responders and immediately instructed bystanders on assisting with CPR. Sergeant Rogers deployed one dose of Narcan and then took over performing CPR. Within a period of several minutes of performing CPR, Sergeant Rogers was able to get the subject breathing on his own and got a pulse back on the subject. Medics arrived on scene and transported the patient to San Juan Regional Medical Center. Sergeant Rogers is to be commended for remaining courageous and calm in the face of a life-threatening situation. His quick response, decisive actions, and effective use of his tools and training, saved the life of a citizen of San Juan County. He is a credit to this office, this community, and his family.
