From January 28, 2023 post.

On January 13, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office held our annual awards banquet where we celebrate the great work of our staff. Over the course of a few weeks, we will highlight some of these awards and the staff that earned them.

Today we recognize two of our recipients of a Lifesaving Medal. The Lifesaving Medal is presented to members whose quick actions and selfless response saved the life of another.

On May 14, 2022, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Kirtland in reference to a possible suicidal person. The reporting party had indicated that her adult son had left the residence and walked out into the hills. Corporal Lucas Hoover and Deputy Timothy Moore responded on foot and located the male, who had already performed steps to take his own life. They quickly lifted the unresponsive male, who remained non-verbal, but did become responsive. Eventually, the male agreed to be transported to the emergency room for an evaluation. Though the male did not suffer any injuries, if it were not for Corporal Hoover and Deputy T. Moore's quick response and actions, it was likely the male would have become unconscious and lost his life.

Thank you Corporal Hoover and Deputy T. Moore for your service to our community!
