Today the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office released dash camera and body camera video of the deputy involved shooting that occurred on January 21, 2023. The video can be found on the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page where it details events of the incident.
The incident occurred when a deputy witnessed a vehicle driving in the dark without headlights on. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled three separate times. The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Lacy Gomez, began to flee again but was blocked by additional law enforcement. Gomez was then taken into custody without further incident and there were no injuries.
