Steve Carlson has agreed to extend his contract as the superintendent of the Central Consolidated School District (CCSD) for an additional two years. The decision was made during a Work Session School Board Meeting on April 11, 2024, where the board unanimously approved the renewal.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to continue leading Central Consolidated School District as appointed by the CCSD's board of education. My team and I are committed to fostering a supportive environment where educators and staff are appreciated and where students are provided with an environment conducive to high-level learning," said Carlson.

Carlson emphasized his belief that all students in CCSD can perform at or above the level of any other school in New Mexico. Over the past year, the district has seen improvements in graduation rates and an increase in honors and AP course offerings. Carlson aims to continue fostering strong community relationships and ensuring that the educational system meets the evolving needs of all its members.
